Techies get sporty @ International Tech Park
Bangalore, February 7, 2003

Sr. Management Staff, Techies, Call center Professionals and Service Providers came together for a three week fun filled Sports finale at the International Tech Park lawns, today. The IT Park Sports Meet 2003, was initiated by Information Technology Park Limited and was supported by the Sports Committee, comprising of Tenants of the Park. The Sports Committee organized various team events like Cricket, Football, Volleyball and Throwball.

With most of the companies participating in this annual feature, the Sports Meet was just not a Tournament but translated to good participation thereby resulting into a very enthusiastic and spirited sports meet. The closing ceremony, which was held today, had a very interesting and a unique theme song, where the music and lyrics was created, composed and sung inhouse by a group of young enthusiastic Parkites from various companies.

CEO's of the Park Tenants, like Mr. Antonio Rego, Plant Manager, Tyco Precision Interconnect India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Prakash Kulkarni, Director, Delphi Automotive Systems, Mr. Nagaraj Ijaria, Operational Head, Tata Consultancy Services, Mr. M P Ullas, Centre Head, Tata Infotech Ltd. and Chan Kah Hoe, CEO, ITPL gave away trophies to the winning teams and lauded them for their sporting ability.

Laurels:

  • Lucent Technologies Hindustan Pvt. Ltd beat Ocwen Financial Services to lift the Cricket trophy.
  • SAP Labs won the finals of the Soccer tournament beating Tata Consultancy Services.
  • TCS beat Wipro in the Volleyball finals through straight 3 sets out of a 5-setter match.
  • Finally Throwball, which was exclusively for the women, saw Ocwen Financial Services taking away the trophy beating SAP Labs.

Mr. Chan Kah Hoe, CEO, Information Technology Park Ltd. said, "The Sports Day is yet another annual initiative of ours to promote the 'work- live- play' culture at the Tech Park. The events have been a forum for Parkites to display their sporting abilities and promote healthy competition. With over 100 companies and 8500 employees, who spend an average of 9 hours everyday at the International Tech Park, the Sports Day has added fun and adventure to the routine work atmosphere and also has provided an excellent networking opportunity not just within the Park but also within their own Organization. We will continue to organize such events to create an environment to enhance the team spirit amongst the Parkites. "

Gerard Gabriel, Wipro Technologies (Chairperson of the IT Park Sports Committee) stated, "This event acts as a leisure activity and breaks the monotony of work life. This also motivates employees. This is the third consecutive year that Wipro has participated and not only we, but even our other employees from the city offices look forward to participating in this event."

Indu N C, SAP Labs (captain of the Throwball team), said, "It was excellent, fun and very interactive. We were always looking forward for the practices, where all the employees have actually taken time amidst their busy work schedule. This also is an excellent platform to display our talents & skills. Our management has been very supportive and encouraging us to actively participate in this tournament."

Naveen Urs, Tata Consultancy Services (an enthusiastic cheerer throughout the tournament), mentions, "It was a real good experience, for not only employees within TCS, but also to get to know a lot of other employees from various other companies which exist in the Park. The sportsman spirit was very good, and has enabled us to make a lot of friends. There has been no differentiation between a boss and a subordinate, we played as a team and represent the company as a whole and not just as individuals."
